About me

Johannes Neumann, Religionswissenschaftler
Johannes Neumann, Religion scholar

My name is Johannes Neumann; I was born in 1949. I studied evangelical theology in Leipzig and Berlin from 1968 to 1973, history in Mainz and Hamburg from 1975 to 1979 and business administration in Hamburg from 1985 to 1989. I had worked as a self-employed tax adviser and accountant in Radebeul near Dresden from 1993 until June 2019.

My hobby since 1986 has been publishing short texts about the Bible and historical topics. Growing up in the GDR as the son of an evangelical pastor, I was confronted with the atheist ideology of the communist state and developed an interest in religion and religious criticism from an early age.

Theologians’ statements about the origin of the Bible didn’t convince me, so I started comparing the Bible with classical literature from Homer to Ovid. In this way I found a literary and historical approach to Biblical texts that provided explanations without needing to apply Christian mythology.
