The traditional narrative about the origins of Old Testament Judaism is closely aligned with the Biblical narrative about

the exodus from Egypt, of David’s great kingdom, of the small Jewish states, the prophets, the Babylonian exile and the return under Cyrus.

Because archaeological confirmation of these narratives is very limited, positions were gradually given up and the Old Testament’s origin was continually shifted to later and later dates.

Supporters of the traditional narrative were keen to maintain the pre-Hellenistic origin of the Old Testament writings, however.

I support the following opinion about the origin of Old Testament Judaism:

Old Testament Judaism originated in the 1st century AD between Prince Antipas’ reign and the completion of the Old Testament writings after the end of the Jewish rebellion in 70 AD.
